Job Description

Position Overview:

 

The Ocean Import Agent responsibilities are quoting and routing freight, tracking shipments, troubleshooting, and overcoming operational challenges as well as assisting local sales and global offices with air and/or ocean export matters. This position will be responsible for controlling International freight forwarding shipments into the USA across all modes of transport per customer request. The primary focus is providing a high-level of excellent and quality customer service to all customers and vendors.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide courteous etiquette via phone or e-mail interaction with customers, vendors, AIT teammates throughout the organization as we maintain and develop strong relationships.
  • Responsible for complete shipment process in Cargowise including quoting, data entry, pickup/delivery scheduling, AES entry, interfacing with customs brokers, routing, and operational milestone updates.
  • Verification of all shipment documentation is accurate, completed and retained in Cargowise, eDocs.
  • Partner with Gateway and Air Carriers to accurately and timely book all shipments.
  • Responsible for sending pre-alerts to customers and overseas partners.
  • Ensuring all shipments are properly billed within company guidelines and timelines.
  • Obtain all details necessary for shipment/quote in order to evaluate all factors to ensure customer’s request is satisfied.
  • Examine all possible factors prior to shipment coordination and/or pricing to ensure most successful result.
  • Input all essential information into the computer system to allow all information needed for shipment coordination and billing are achieved.
  • Ability to prioritize action items in order to determine critical timing for action items of shipment coordination to ensure successful transaction.
  • Manage all aspects of tracking shipments to ensure shipment is moving as scheduled and update system immediately upon verification.
  • Identify and rectify if a shipment has deviated from schedule transit in an effort to correct shipment and achieve customer expectation and satisfaction.
  • Other duties and responsibilities will be assigned as business demands deem necessary

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 2+ years’ industry experience in Ocean Import operations within a freight forwarding company
  • Previous work experience in ITAR and Dangerous Goods regulations preferred
  • Cargo-wise experience a plus! 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Ability to multi-task in a high volume, fast-paced working environment
  • High attention to detail and strong organizing skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and within a team environment
